LIN Eleen is skilled in using oil painting as a creative media. Her works mostly investigate the changes and chaotic phenomenon brought about by modern culture, recording the loss and disappearance of various cultural elements and traditions. Hand Puppet Theater revolves around a traditional theater with its limited audience composed mainly of elderly folk. In contrast to the emotional gestures of the audience sitting before the stage, a female figure at the bottom right corner pays no heed to the performance, focusing instead on her newspaper. Taiwan’s most iconic hand puppet theater has been transformed into broadcasted television shows as a result of media development. Through her artworks, LIN Eleen portrays village theaters in another light and communicates another layer of meaning to it.
