CHIU Yong-Jin’s creative themes are mainly derived from the re-interpretation of the landscape. The scenes he has illustrated are recreations of memories and records of his travels and daily life. The compositions are similar to the bird’s eye view of early maps which are integrated with the subjectivity of his sensory memories and viewing position, generating works that convey his contemplation of space and time. In Shintan, CHIU Yong-Jin combined several routes of travel, using detailed brush strokes to illustrate the rise and falls along the way. Winding mountain paths are contrasted against the serenity of the lake, recreating scenes of his personal memories. Through these works, CHIU Yong-Jin has transformed his everyday experiences and travels into pictures, giving new life to the meaning of maps.
