LEE Yi-Hsuan makes use of painting to portray her physical reaction to spatial realities. In Touch The Lost, LEE Yi-Hsuan uses serene and gentle tones to create a scene of a kitchen corner. The sink is stacked with plates and bowls waiting to be washed, while the countertop is littered with kitchen utensils covered in food scraps. Trails of dirty water flowing down the table can be readily seen. LEE Yi-Hsuan deliberately mismatched the two canvases in order to generate an optical illusion in real space, leading the viewers to interface with the picture. Spatial conventions of canvas arrangements have been totally dispensed with and coupled to a most mundane and easily forgettable chore of daily life. With this work, LEE Yi-Hsuan attempts to tap into every viewer’s memories and elicit a physical response.
