Artist HSU Chin-Yen is good at expanding the fixed image of ink art through the expressions of elaborate-style painting, transfer printing, and collage. In his work Love and the Enemy, HSU Chin-Yen applies the splendid image of kaleidoscope he saw in his childhood to the structure of the painting. On both sides of the painting are two successful patterns overlapped by patterns of half-ellipse. The eye-catching and splendid pattern at the center is composed by the regular transfer printing and intersection of the unicorn’s head and male body. Through this work, the artist expresses the confusion he confronted as looking for his ego. He attempts to experience more detailed and changeable emotions from various perspectives, experiences the internal struggle of the internal ego again, and looks for the chance of transformation and metamorphosis.
