CHI Lien was born in Kaohsiung and has over 20 years of experience. In addition to using his brush to depict the beauty of nature, he expresses his inner emotions with great feeling through his work. In Sense and Sensibility 2 the artist combines mixed media with the "automatic" technique to create a "conflicting aesthetic" of both "sense" and "sensibility." Against a basic background of gray/black/white, CHI Lien uses the automatic technique to apply color by random splashing and dripping. Following the natural movement of the color, various lines are then added to create an atmosphere composed of points and lines both relaxed and tense at the same time. The bold and unrestrained feeling of the painting is reflected in the overall composition of the "sense," or "rational space," creating a visual language of dual contrast, and it is also the goal of the artist--to create the "sensibility" in the "rational" space.
