Artist LEE Wen-Pin, also known as Lee Feng, was born in Budai, Chiayi County. His painting style is refined by the nature and cultivated by the countryside. This work shows a branch drawn by bold black lines, red flower in daring strokes decorating the edges of the branch, and blue hue outlining the overall image. Lee’s paintings are simple and powerful with liberal and bold brushstrokes; he finds the delicate connection between abstract and figurative paintings, exhibiting a level of “flower is not flower, tree is not tree”. The rhythm and tempo of brushwork showcase the artist’s joy from painting, as well as his determination to pursue freedom and liberation. Lee believes that painting is the process through which life is elevated and refined, and artworks are the ultimate witness of spirit.
