As an artist LIN Chin-Hung cuts across the fields of graphic design, fashion design and fine art. He especially excels at illustration, using vivid colors and a strong visual sense to express the subtle feelings encountered in everyday life. Don’t Just Believe All the Cool Stuff You See in Your Dreams is a composite of two paintings. One is a monster opening a huge mouth in which there is another self. The monster’s eyes emit two red lines of sight that are tightly grasped by a tattooed hand in a second painting. The creative inspiration for this work came, in fact, from the artist’s dreams. As the artist tries to explain, when we come to a bottleneck in our creative activity, we go find a solution in our dreams, but after we wake up and try to do exactly the same, it is impossible to get the same results. As the title of his work, Don’t Just Believe All the Cool Stuff You See in Your Dreams, indicates, the artist uses his piece as a metaphor for a simple life principle: although something might seem true in a dream, in reality it will always remain illusory.
