As an artist LIN Chin-Hung cuts across the fields of graphic design, fashion design and fine art. He especially excels at illustration, using vivid colors and a strong visual sense to express the subtle feelings encountered in everyday life. His Distant Mentaiko-like Mountains, is a creation inspired by his experience in visiting Great Britain. He had difficulties in a Japanese restaurant there because of the language problem and so turned this memory into a picture with great imaginative power. The orange dots on the distant mountain represent “mentaiko,” or marinated roe, and the dumpling-shaped object covering the torso of the person is a deformed Japanese chrysanthemum. Through this piece the artist expresses the loneliness created by cultural barriers and the feeling of disorientation when traveling abroad.
