Monument in the Corner

作品賞析

Lin Yu-Pei’s “Corner of Monument” is set in Taiwan’s bathroom in the old days. The old style bathtub in the bottom of the painting is a collage of stones and glass, above which is a rotten wood block and an old water tank containing lifeless plants wrapped around by the remains of a snake. This water tank is just like the monuments often seen at all the tourist sites in Taiwan; although the stories have faded with time, but these monuments, by occupying the spaces like this, are silently telling the past history and memory.
