CHI Jung-Hao likes to paint landscapes he has seen, walked and yearned in his life, applying the water-and-ink painting style to express his frame of mind. In Alone on a Solitary Peak, he creates a majestic water-and-ink landscape of consistent density using the cunfa technique (sometimes known as the texturing method). A tall, slender waterfall streams downward amid a tranquil landscape of mountains and trees. Layer after layer of an unbroken mountain range soar to precipitous heights, and a river rushes by at the base of the mountains. The magnificent rocky and forested landscape in this painting is full of rhythm. To the artist, water-and-ink painting is like an expansion of his mental image. It’s a dialogue between nature and the artist, as well as a mark of his inner turmoil.
