作品賞析
In his piece In Transit, CHAO Shu-Jung first collects and records poems, essays and songs about rain and water from different countries. Afterwards, she transcribes them onto strips of paper, which in darkness, rain and mist slowly fall into a pile in time with the rhythms of the songs and the cadences of the recited poems. To the artist, the rain and water represent philosophical, literary and aesthetic viewpoints, which exhibit a labyrinthine visual metonymy in space and time, like the sense of distance and vacancy between people. In this piece, she tries to guide the viewer on journey of experience through varied sounds and sights amid unfamiliar words and languages, arousing a deeply layered sense of alienation and giving the viewer’s conscience the chance to interact with the exterior world, producing a continually expanding shock and reverberation.
