Flax is the chief medium with which CHANG Yu-Hsin created his sculpture Body of Crawling Plant. A close look this three-dimensional piece reveals a form lying somewhere between plant and animal, climbing tensely up a wall. Long tendrils extend form its body, giving it a sense of invasiveness. The idea behind Chang’s thinking is that this organic entity keeps evolving, taking over other creatures, the different organisms carrying out their entire life cycles within the same body. In creating this bizarre sculpture, Chang attempts to overturn our traditional awareness and create a different form in which life can exist.
