The subject matter of LIU Zi-Ping’s work comes from life experience. The overall framework of his recent creative work has turned toward themes of environmental destruction and change. In Chain & Cycle, Liu overlays colors onto wooden boards. The scene depicts rain-soaked land with large fish swimming in the river, symbolizing a constantly flowing wellspring of life. An abstract zigzagging band of gold and greyish green, like chains in the cycle of life, links different individual life forms and generates the cycles and rebirth of living things. Through unique composition, Liu depicts the postures that individual life forms take in the cosmos.
