The style of WANG Gon-Jer’s early work is characterized by sturdy, lifelike forms and technique. But inspired by his religious faith, he later turned toward abstract work that probed his innermost soul. In Visualization of Poetic Experience 07-12, WANG constructs poetic images of mist-shrouded wilderness using densely colored inks. Drawing on his visual intuition, he elevates his external life experience to an inner spirituality, merging the nature, spirituality and emotions of his life into one, which he applies to the canvas with a naturally profound stylistic dynamism. This piece fuses Chinese water-and-ink freehand painting with the essence of Western abstract painting, giving the viewer the sensation of being placed within the vast cosmos, wandering amid a tranquil, macroscopic aesthetic experience.
