These three fan-shaped works, titled A Trip to Utopia, feature vibrant, rich colors, creating an atmosphere of hope. Artist Chuang Shu-Fen uses photography to capture everyday scenes, then reassembles the images through digital post-production, presenting them in the form of paintings that convey the imagery of blossoms and the ideal realm she holds in her mind. The beautiful, utopia-like scene described by Tao Yuan ming of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in his “Peach Blossom Spring” has always been her ideal. She drew inspiration from a database of daily footage and, through splicing, reassembling and digital processing, found her ideal Peach Blossom Spring. The three compositions show the changes across different times or scenes,with stacked colors depicting flowers, trees, rocks and hidden paths to create an effect reminiscent of splashed ink and washes while retaining the texture and chiaroscuro of photography. These elements are not just those of natural landscapes--they also imply the ups and downs of life’s journey, as well as unknown challenges and various possibilities worth looking forward to.
