Artist Peng Fei-Jung is skilled at using delicate, warm clay sculptures to create emotions, memories, and imaginations about home. Her work Watching the Clouds is a continuation of her “House” series. The lower part, which is covered with black glaze, is a house as solid as a castle, though the curved walls soften the square and cold feeling. After experimenting with various types of clay, Peng Fei-Jung chose white, low-temperature clay to create the cloud that floats up gently from the house. The pure, soft white cloud contrasts with the sturdy, thick black walls, while the gold-painted column becomes a visual focal point. The artist also created interconnected passageways within the building, as well as intricately crafted staircases. By this means, she allows viewers to enter the interior space, imagine the feeling of being enveloped and sheltered by the solid structure of the house, and experience her vision of “home.”
