作品賞析
Artist Chiu Chao-Tsai’s “Clockwork Pattern” series adapts the technology of classical automata, using springs to power various dynamic objects. Chiu selects moments from daily life or abstract forms, encasing them in glass domes like insect specimens. These enclosed objects are not merely silent; once wound, they activate a small clockwork theater. In “Wave,” Chiu Chao-Tsai places two golden pom-poms in the glass dome. The speed of the balls’ swings slows over time and is affected by the force applied by the springs. The artist believes this is more interactive than electrically driven devices. To create a sense of time, the artist used a wooden base because wood carries the warmth of time. Furthermore, brass was chosen over stainless steel for the metal components because brass oxidizes, a sign of time.
