To create works for the Chishang Autumn Rice Harvest Arts Festival, Wu Song-Ming made three trips to Taitung in the summer of 2023. By mid-July, the rice fields in Chishang had been harvested. One afternoon, Wu Song-Ming was walking by the fields when a sudden downpour hit. He took shelter in a roadside hut. Inspired by the shimmering water and mountains before him, he decided to capture his emotions, which led to the creation of the work Rice Fields and Blossoming Persian Silk Trees. The distant view reveals the tranquil Central Mountain Range, its shady and sunny sides divided by sunlight, while thick clouds linger on the mountaintops. To the left of the frame, a rice transplanter is in operation, its path transforming into neatly arranged rows of green seedlings, a vibrant display of life. Looking out, the rice paddies reflect the sky, creating a beautiful scene. The Persian silk tree blossoms in the foreground perfectly highlight the theme. Wu Song-Ming insists on using a baren to hand-produce his prints. The unique impression left by the uneven pressure imbues his works with a handmade warmth and vitality.
