Artist Chou Tai-Chun’s work often addresses the interplay between contemporary society and historical interpretation. In this work, Chou Tai-Chun depicts a scene that seems to have stacked in multiple layers by a drawing software application. Each layer exhibits varying visual effects such as transparency, collage, and blank space. This work explores the concept of “history as a stacked construct” and suggests contemporary perspectives on understanding things. With what appears to be a layer on the right that is about to be flipped over, the artist implies that “past historical narratives are being unveiled and will be reinterpreted from new perspectives.” Chou also deliberately uses high-saturation colors to create a digital or contemporary feel.
