Artist Fan Jiung-Lieh’s recent creations derive from his experiences and reflections on life, and depict his inner state of mind. The work Cloud Mountains originated from his travels to various cities, and the different scenes he saw produced as a result of the geology and mountain shapes of each locale. These landscapes brought him indescribable feelings that pervaded his inner thoughts and emotions. He then tried to carve out overlapping mountains amid clouds and mist, like the accumulation of one after another layer in life, through the continuous flow of time. The staggered mountain shapes, stone textures, and color changes create an infinitely extending perspective. During the creative process, Fan Jiung-Lieh constantly changed the shapes’ lines and textures under light, as he thought about how to express his inner understanding through his work.
