Artist Mia Liu’s earlier creations were mainly freehand painting and paper installations, with which she explored the possibilities of different media by breaking existing forms. This work takes features of the paper works and graphic photography she did earlier, based on the cutting and curling of paper, and combined them with photographic techniques in order to initiate a kind of dialogue. Mia Liu used the physical projection method, placing a spring under an enlarger for exposure, capturing the outline of the spring and projecting the image onto photographic paper. After developing it, the spring image artwork was cut, curled and arranged, allowing viewers to experience the thousands of changes among the light, objects, and three-dimensional paper shapes from different positions and angles. Through her creations, she reflects on and reorganizes traditional art forms, and through constant experimentation, she creates new visual experiences.
