Artist Peng Si-Qi’s creative inspiration comes from the spirit of craft in traditional calligraphy, painting, and mounting. She uses objects and observations in daily life as themes, and creates through different forms such as installations and mixed media, connecting with personal emotions and exploring the diverse possibilities of calligraphy and painting. Peng’s work, Vulnerable, resembles a traditional cattail leaf fan, and it is inspired by the thinnest type of rice paper, called zhahua. Through continuous experimentation, Peng Si-Qi mixed paper pulp, leaves, and ceramic clay, then fired them at high temperatures. During this process, the leaves and pulp fibers gradually disappeared, leaving only very fine holes, which became the structure of the porcelain. In the end, it appeared as thin as zhahua, and achieved eternity in a different form. She placed the finished product on pink silk to create a warm, moist effect, thus cleverly combining the elegant imagery of traditional literati accoutrements with the fun and appreciation of contemporary life.
