In artist Tsui Yung-Yen’s work Golden Ball, a doll of indistinct gender, with feet turned inward, stands on a small golden ball in an extremely exaggerated and unreasonable 90-degree bending posture. When looking at it, do you involuntarily tilt your head, thinking that the figure might fall in the next second? This work is from Tsui Yung-Yen’s “Tiptoe Circus” series. She believes that the relationship between the work and the artist ends when the work is completed, and that the artwork will establish a new relationship with the public when it is viewed. Tsui Yung-Yen condenses various movements into sculptural shapes, each of which presents a performative quality that is both independent and complementary. She hopes that viewers can look at the work and form a visual “connection” with it, generating new feelings and inspirations, and imagining the sculpture’s next move.
