作品賞析
Each plant in the “The Forest ” series shows either a branch or trunk discarded by nature, or a discarded piece of wood after artificial pruning. Artist Huang Lan-Ya uses thermoplastic resin and acrylic beads to wrap the plants in a gorgeous coat and let them grow new fruits and flowers. Emerging from the ground, branches like the tentacles of living creatures stretch upwards, free and full of vitality. In her memories of her childhood, Huang Lan-Ya always sees her mother crocheting acrylic beads one by one into gorgeous and colorful bead bags, with which she supplemented the family income. This process inspired her to create works through pure manual labor. Acrylic beads represent the needlework materials commonly used by women in home-based production in the 1970s; they are made of artificial industrial materials like thermoplastic resins. The artist also rethinks the opposing yet symbiotic relationship between nature and man-made objects through the creative process.
