Artist Lu Wei was inspired by the classic Medieval tapestry, The Lady and the Unicorn, and reinterpreted the positioning of the young woman and the unicorn. She deliberately downplayed the traditional “masculine” unicorn horns, making them seem to blend into the background. The young woman no longer resembles the single “holy and loving” image in previous religious paintings, but instead has a personality and self. She then added other animals or rainbow-colored circles to break through the binary opposition framework and add more contemporary meanings and human warmth. In addition, Lu Wei drew the unicorn based on the thin, anthropomorphized horse image in Chinese literati paintings, and she specially selected rough vellum paper made in Taiwan to retain the natural fiber texture and off-white color, creating a warm visual effect. She used silk printing techniques to print the textures of Taiwan's unique plants on the front and back. The texture of the paper not only increases the sense of space in the work, but also symbolizes an extension of the girl’s skin and accessories.
