Artist Li Cheng-Hsun’s Squid Game has his characteristically consistent lines. This work was inspired after he watched the Korean TV series of the same name. The left side of the painting has some damage, and the colors have different intensities. After the dotted line on the right passes through the center dividing line, it becomes a solid line. On the right, there are a few tiny figures of people and things in different colors, and like the main characters in the TV series, they finally stand victorious at the endpoint after surviving a brutally competitive game. Li Cheng-Hsun used many crossed vertical and horizontal lines on the left half of the canvas to create a complex, rational, and orderly visual effect, but on the bottom of the right half are three geometric shapes of the circle, triangle, and square, which are important symbols in the TV series. Li creates a rather casual composition through random arrangements, extensive use of blank areas, and polishing techniques, allowing the work to contrast and balance between rationality and sensibility, rigor and white space.
