作品賞析
Artist Chen Yu-Yu specializes in creating works with composite media. She constantly studies the characteristics and effects of various materials, including traditional painting pigments like oil paint and acrylic, as well as rust agents, cracking agents, kaolin, and even cutting-edge materials such as 3D printing resin. By blending old and new materials, she creates pieces that exist between two-dimensional paintings and three-dimensional sculptures. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chen Yu-Yu became deeply aware of life-and-death issues, prompting her to incorporate media such as gold foil and luminous powder into the “living bodies” of her works to enhance their sense of vitality. Crack imitates the broken pillar of an abandoned building. Under normal lighting, the viewer can observe the colorful tiles on the pillar’s surface, the vines wrapped around it, and a small gecko. The texture of the work is rich in detail and layering; when the lights are turned off, parts of the plants coated with glow-in-the-dark materials subtle illuminate, offering a mysterious, captivating effect.
