Artist Hsu Chun Chun’s themes revolve around natural scenery, but rather than depicting nature itself, she portrays her observations of life. She begins by reassembling her own perceptions and memories, then redefines and interprets nature, ultimately expressing the landscape of her inner self. In Covering the Scenery 01, Hsu Chun Chun used bright yellow and dark green acrylic paint to cover large areas on the top and bottom of the painting. In contrast, the middle section features paper collaged with shapes of mountains, rivers and land. Additionally, flowers, plants, and trees are depicted on the paper with thin, single-color watercolor strokes. The edges of the paper retain an irregular, hand-torn appearance, creating an intriguing contrast with the large, flat, and orderly color blocks. By taking realistic scenery and abstracting it, Hsu Chun Chun divides the painting into various conceptual levels. Furthermore, the extensive blank space invites the viewer to explore and imagine freely.
