作品賞析
In this picture, a round dining table is filled with sumptuous-looking food. In the distance, a fish-man holding a knife and fork in both hands and using a tablecloth as a napkin seems to be preparing for a full meal. Artist Wu Yu-Ting used as a foundation the style of seventeenth-century Dutch still-life painting as the basic composition. The light source of the candle in the center not only embellishes the picture, but also contrasts with the black and white tones, creating a sense of loneliness. For the composition, it incorporates shapes from dishes on the table, alongside elements drawn from fables. The fish-man in the picture is the artist’s own code. Wu Yu-Ting deliberately draws the food items of large, exaggerated size to create a sense of abundance. However, it also emphasizes the people’s craving for fine food during the pandemic, as well as their fear of food shortage. This reflects a sense of irony for the audiences. For the painting skills, she uses mainly graphite pencil sketching, supplemented by digital inkjet technology. Her matching of drawing by hand with technology skillfully combines tradition and modernity, adding a sense of layering to the picture.
