作品賞析
Compared with seventeenth-century Dutch still life paintings featuring the dining table, which symbolized wealth and abundance, artist Wu Yu-Ting’s painting reflects the world’s desire for food during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this piece, it makes viewers evoke an inner anxiety and uneasiness about the food shortage fears. Thus, it caused many people to start scrambling for and hoarding things, which redefines the relationship between humans and food. Through the quiet atmosphere of a two-person dinner party and the starry sky at night, the painting creates a peaceful feeling, but with underlying anxiety. Wu uses graphite pencil and digital inkjet technology, with suihi pigments embellishment, to add a sense of layering. As Wu loves using allegorical stories as character, she inserted her personal artistic symbol “fish-man” into the paintings. She also invites the audience to interact with the artwork, creating an engaging and allegorical experience filled with hidden surprises.
