This creation by Artist Leo Wang, uses an abstract style with light and yellow color blocks to create a scene resembling the misty atmosphere of water vapor. The silver-grey area in the lower half of the painting extends to the left, giving the work a broader visual experience. His recent creations have focused on environmental and social issues, and he was inspired by the reconstruction of the “Boshi zhi jia” community in Xinzhuang, New Taipei City, which collapsed in the 921 earthquake of 1999. Thinking of the philosophical speculation of the ancient Greek writer Plutarch: “If the wood in Theseus’s ship was gradually replaced until all the wood was no longer the original wood, would the ship still be the same ship?” Leo Wang reflected: If we only solve superficial problems without dealing with the essentials, can we achieve the ideal of living and working in peace and contentment? The artist hopes that viewers will cherish the right to choose and treat each other well when faced with choices, because choice represents hope and can bring about real change.
