作品賞析
For artist Kao Kuan-Chun, the various succulents he plants in his home are the “natural” scenery that is closest to him, becoming an integral part of his visual language. Their opposite, the “man-made” scenery outside consists of the iron sheets, construction signs, and other items seen by construction sites. In the work New Paradise—Green Curtain, Kao veiled the succulent plants with the green gauze that is wrapped around the exterior walls of buildings under construction, which is used to prevent dust from flying out. At first glance, it looks like more green vegetation. The viewer must look carefully to discover the gauze’s characteristic texture. Kao combines natural and man-made elements to construct a contemporary landscape full of whimsy, and uses this to express the relationship between ever-developing civilization and the natural environment. As humans, we must continue to explore how to find the delicate balance between the two.
