作品賞析
Artist Kao Kuan-Chun takes as his creative theme the complex relationship between the natural environment and the development of civilization. In his “New Paradise” series, he places before a gray background, strongly suggestive of a cement floor, all sorts of strange images of succulent plants that he grows among telephone poles, iron fences, and construction signs. The created works are thus harmonious, yet full of contradiction. Kao Kuan-Chun considers the building of an iron fence is often the first sign of land development. The fence is like a magic circle that cuts off the outside world, making it impossible for people to see clearly what is happening inside. It is an omen of changes about to happen, and is full of mysterious rituals. In this work, the iron fence takes a star shape as it surrounds the succulent plants. The conflict between natural and artificial elements in the composition suggests how the huge force of humankind’s pursuit of economic development is putting an unbearable weight on nature, causing it to gradually lose vitality.
