In Spark, the artist Yeh Yi-hsien depicts a strange experience she once had while climbing a mountain. She was walking into a dense juniper forest when she reached out and touched the trunk of a tree. Suddenly everything seemed to stop, leaving only herself and the tree, and she could sense its soul, already thousands of years old. Such magical moments would also often reoccur in subsequent dreams, but the more she wanted to approach them, the less she seemed able to. In the painting, the figure on the right stretches out her hand towards the tree, while the checkered image on the left seems to be an intervening barrier. The artist used fine brushstrokes and orange-red tones to show her incomprehensible emotions in repeatedly dreaming about the same scene, as well as a lingering sense of frustration. However, after she completed the work, her emotions were released, and the dreams also disappeared.
