作品賞析
2022 Lao Geng is a triptych by the artist Tseng Ting-Yu. Each of its three parts describes a moment in his life: Chill at Night expresses his state of mind when lying on the sofa in the middle of the night, pressing the remote control; Riding a Kirin shows the mythical kirin or unicorn on the roof of a temple by the river embankment; and Inner Drama is a stage for a puppet show. The artist uses this composition of “one river, two banks” to symbolize mainland China and Taiwan facing each other across the Taiwan Strait and to indicate his constant travel between them. Large pieces of gold foil, which is partly reflective, are used for the strait. Gold foil is not only affected by the lighting conditions where it is exhibited, but also embodies the atmosphere of the era when artists in the early years would cross the sea to Taiwan. Ink is Tseng Ting-Yu’s most frequently used medium. His work features the multiple point perspective of traditional ink painting but adds modern techniques to explore the various possibilities of ink.
