On the basis of traditional ink painting, artist Lin Ying-Hsiu constantly tries to develop various possibilities between abstract and concrete creation, opening up a new vocabulary of ink painting. In Heterotopia, Lin moved the brush across white rice paper, following intuition to apply minimal, diverse, zigzag, and soft brushstrokes and gradually extend them. Organic, concrete images gradually formed from the dots and lines, and yet they differed from things known in nature. The artist constantly applied her creative imagination on the dots and lines, starting from scratch and expanding from the inside out. Through the continuous generation and transformation of these fluid brushstrokes, she could perceive the things in her mind with new insights and draw them one by one. The resulting multi-viewpoint depiction leads the viewer to travel freely through the painted world, exploring every scene.
