Hidden Sounds in the Maze–The Door is a work by Tseng Wei-Hao, an artist who specializes in sound art. One night, when he looked at the sky through the branches of a large tree on a hillside behind his home, the image of the intertwined branches with the night sky behind them seemed like a deep black maze, but the sounds of various insects and birds seemed to guide his thoughts through this forest. The rectangular shape of this work makes it seem like a door through which one can imagine traveling to another space. Tseng Wei-Hao filled the background with conductive ink and drew a maze with branch-like passages. Since the blocks on both sides of the maze are not connected, viewers must touch the screen with their hands, connect the two sides through the conductive properties of the human body, and make sounds to find the correct way out—just as people in a bewildering environment must rely on some guide or clues in order to move ahead or leave.
