作品賞析
The slightly tilted trees standing in front of the building show the appearance of having witnessed the passing of much time. This is a scene on Cheng-kung Hill, painted by the artist Li Shih-Wen during his military service, when he was receiving training. He used charcoal and acrylic to create a series of works that recorded where he had been. By layering and smearing the charcoal on canvas, he produced various textural effects. In Cheng-Kung Hill – IV, Li used acrylic to create a night of silence. Having carefully observed a scene he passed every day, he was able to create a richly layered composition. He was constantly pondering the questions, “What is all of this? How do we understand the things external to ourselves?” They are covered in time’s constant flow, and whether they are a dense forest or a fast-pulsing city, they all retain something indescribably primitive. One can feel the untamable part of things especially in a city late at night. Everything, in the face of time, is wild.
