In Landscape, Chiu Ling-Lin hopes to present a real landscape, filtered through the imagination, that she saw during a certain trip in the mountains. The mountain at the center of the painting is executed with the “deep distance” idea, which creates a solid spatial sense, and relatively thick pigments and blank paper are used to express the landscape textures. However, the blocks of landscape around the mountain seem to be floating in the air, watching the “real” landscape. On the central mountain, one can see the texture of the silver foil on the paper, which was destroyed and then repainted—a painting process that implies the way the land and its resources are being used. However, the bits of light still refracted through the silver foil is similar to the patterns of sunlight through trees and suggests nature’s gradual rebirth.
