作品賞析
The artist Wu Hsuan-Hui has been concerned about the relationship between nature and life for a long time, and her creations also deal with Eastern and Western philosophical issues. This diptych work Garden Impressions I, II uses a two-panel structure show two different spaces: the “public courtyard” and “private studio.” The left half of the painting symbolizes the colorful appearance of the natural garden, with light and soft lines; the right half is mostly a bold black and white monochrome. However, the garden’s flowing colors extend into the right half, like a breeze through a window, thus blurring the public and private spaces and balancing the dynamics. Wu uses raw rice paper, which is highly water-absorbent and bleeds well, so it retains the trace every flash of inspiration with the ink and pigment and leads the viewer to feel the rhythm of the depicted environments. The gap between the two parts allows the picture to “breathe” while retaining the broader meaning of their respective spaces, and it creates a dialogue between the two.
