The artist Chang Li-Yeh uses High Mountain Ecstasy to interpret the course of human life. An immense mountain stands in the center of the painting, in a manner reminiscent of some of the high mountains seen in the monumental landscape paintings of the Northern Song era. Almost all of the mountain face is covered with lush trees. The spring water pouring down from the top represents purification and cleansing, and the figure sitting on the Santa Cruz lotus leaf is the Buddha. Chang Li-Yeh believes that life is like climbing a huge mountain. On the mountain path, you can stop to rest at pavilions, and after climbing to the top, you will see another vast sea and sky. There is no end to what the mountain contains, just as the human mind contains endless ideas. Next to the mountain, a tree full of golden flowers shines with a numinous radiance, and gold and rosy clouds shine over the earth. It is the realm of enlightenment that self-cultivators look forward to, and it is also a kind of blooming or fulfillment of life.
