Adventure in the Park at Night – 2 is one of a series of paintings by the artist Lin Jun-Yan that depict city night scenes, and it is a concern in her daily life. While taking walks after dinner, Lin found that lighting at night is always reserved for playgrounds or parks where people are most active. These places become like luminous stages or theaters. With so many spotlights on them, people’s eyes are drawn to the yellow sports track and the white railings, which have become extraordinarily bright. The artist always focuses on the fields, however, so the people they accommodate are deliberately removed. Through intuitive associations and depicting what she senses, she adds related objects to the scene. For example, the brown branches in the near foreground actually depict red coral that she saw during a visit to the Palace Museum. She skillfully reconstructs the world she sees and explores the relationship between herself and the various objects and scenes she has seen.
