Artist Vinci Weng is good at combining photography with post-production technology to create works with strong visual effects. His Night Paradise presents the scene of a nighttime fantasyland. The moon is high in the sky, and in this brightly lit realm, there are gorgeous fireworks, parties on the lawn, and people dancing and having fun. This joyful scene is actually “regenerated” by the artist by stacking and recombining other images. The illusory space constructed this way through digital technology is gorgeous and pleasant, but has an ambiguous, strange atmosphere. This kind of visual effect, both realistic but illusory, is based on a creative idea that Vinci Weng developed by integrating characteristics of photography and painting. For him, surreal visual presentations like this precisely reflect his practice of “post-photographic culture.”
