The artist Fu Ya-Wen’s creations center on proprioception, experience, and rhythm. Under Tension is an installation that shows the interaction between body and space. She made a device with 24 springs. One end of the device can be worn on the body, and the other end is fixed in the space. Through the characteristics of spring tension and torsion, people who try it on have the flexibility to extend the body and its rhythm. Fu tried all kinds of experimental actions. In the process of a rhythmic movement, the body would stretch or contract from time to time, creating an ever-changing interaction and dialogue relationship with the surrounding space. To explore the materiality and performance of different media, Fu Ya-Wen continued to develop this installation, combining acrylic, rubber, digital technology, and other media to present the rhythms and changes of the body. It shows the various kinds of tensions and conflicts that an individual experiences in daily life.
