作品賞析

Landscape is an important focus for the artist Lee Meng-Fang. For her, mountains are huge and full of a gentle tolerance, but they are also treacherous and an insurmountable presence. The mountains she depicts are often dissociated images formed by the repeated drawing of lines. She also uses the technique of leaving blank spaces and the creation of negative-positive areas, so that voids are found in solid areas, and vice versa. Her works remind us that modern life has artificially disrupted the environment and natural ecology. As the natural world is increasingly in a state of crisis, the relationship between people and their environment is becoming more alienated. The Eulogy of the Mountains uses ink and pigments as the medium, but there is no intense color at all—the palette is kept very simple. Except for the blue of the sky, the mountain is presented only in black and white, mainly with countless interlacing and parallel lines that express the ups and downs of the mountainous landscape. The lines themselves are full of rhythm and convey a lyrical musicality.
