LIN Ren-Hsin's printmaking, The Word / World <II>, uses the relationship between information and people as the starting point. He transforms the words into stereoscopic forms. In the picture, the words are piled up on a classroom chair, and as if they have been burned by fire, they possess a burnt black color like charcoal, broken, scattered, and difficult to recognize. The mottled background and the shadows create a realistic scene and an ancient ambience, expressing that in an era of rapid flow of information, a large quantity of messages is constantly being broadcasted, letting us to believe that our thoughts come from ourselves while there is a possibility that it has been implanted instead. LIN Ren-Hsin uses words to stack the fragmented and broken symbols and through metaphors, explores the dialectical relationship between symbols and information.
