For CHOU I-Hsun, food can do more than just providing the source of energy needed for human survival. Through chewing, swallowing, digesting, excreting and other physiological processes, the body can feel the magical flow of appetite and form a connection with the nature. In the work, Qualified, the character in the painting is his signature character "A-Fei”. The head is covered with huge pieces of sashimi and the body seems to be dismembered, becoming extremely incomplete. The arms have disappeared, and the stomach is left with cuttings from a knife. An artificial device is placed inside the chest to maintain basic life functions. CHOU I-Hsun uses people and food as his starting point and uses comical vocabulary to exaggerate the various strange phenomena in modern life, hoping that through these creations, more people can pay attention to the environment we live in.
