CHEN Yong-Qin is focused on creating block prints that often depict rural life, temples, farms, and landscapes in early Taiwan. Spring on Old Street uses detailed etching to present an old street boulevard scene of Taiwan. These once-forgotten streets are renovated to gradually restore them to their original grandeur. Red lanterns hang above the street filled with large numbers of tourists. Black is the main tone of the composition to highlight lines and outlines while generating a nostalgic atmosphere typical of old photographs. CHEN Yong-Qin’s artworks present historical memories of Taiwanese culture and landscapes and reminisces on the simplicity and beauty of the good old days.
