KUO Yu-Ping uses painting, sculpting, and photography to convert personal experiences and history into poetic narratives. For At the Blooming Peak, the artist converted fantasy elements of her South American trip into images. Each image resembles an extended diary. The composition shows a great beast lurking in the darkness. Strange flowers and grass sprawl across the landscape, with symbols of human organs and strange geometric shapes interspersed throughout the canvas. To KUO Yu-Ping, this series of paintings serves as a self-portrait conveying personal state of being, and as a secret, personal diary documenting issues of self-identity, desires, fear, and injury.
