T.J. Chiang’s An Indolent Afternoon is part of his Taiwan’s Panorama series. He uses panoramic, wide angle photography techniques to capture sceneries around Taiwan. This work is taken from the northern coast of Taiwan in Jinshan at a Greek-style café house next to the expanse of the open sea. Color has been removed from every element within the photograph, leaving only vivid red hues on several parasols at the center that form a stark contrast against the black and white tones of the rest of the picture. T.J. Chiang uses unique visuals, arrangements, and aesthetics to remove color from photographs, and aligns actual and virtual elements together for the purpose of depicting the various phenomena of this island.
